The SangroValley has
almost all of its territory protected by the presence of several
nature reserves and two national parks:

Parco Nazionaled’Abruzzo, born in 1922

Parco Nazionale della Maiella, recently established.
Most important are the
faggete forest of Saint Antonio in Pescocostanzo, woods from Campitelli
to Alfedena and Defense in addition to Pescasseroli-old oak forest of
Madonna degli Eremiti in Castel di Sangro
